WVFHC and WVFC Create Harmonized Playing Schedules for their Club Members

August 21, 2018 - WVFHC and WVFC proudly announce a new coordinated programming approach for the Fall season.   Working together on scheduling and field allocations, our clubs have program options allowing kids to play both sports with minimal time conflicts. Field hockey and soccer are very popular sports in West Vancouver and we are happy to enable our members to play both.

Both clubs have traditionally enjoyed a close relationship, sharing resources, field times and joint fundraising for the creation of Rutledge and Ambleside turfs. Over this last year, this relationship has also resulted in joint programming, including the recent field hockey-soccer summer camp that took place.

“We are pleased to accommodate our members with the ability to allow their children to play on two different teams,” said Leo Nash, WVFC Director of Academy. “As a club, we promote a healthy and active lifestyle, and this partnership simply supports this.”

“We have been sharing schedules for a while, but this represents the first time we have sat down together and proactively identified options to avoid conflicts,” said Emma Gibbons, WVFHC Executive Director. “Both of us have an aligned commitment to multisport and ensuring that kids are able to play multiple sports without having to choose at an early age.”

For Fall 2018, this means that our K-12 players will benefit from:
A coordinated practice and game schedule for age groups to minimize conflicts: We have moved practices and game times that are in our control to avoid direct conflicts.

Flexible practice and program choices for players impacted by any conflicts: We have created choices between training days and times or the opportunity to train with alternative age groups.

Although the Fall schedule won’t be completely without conflicts, we are jointly committed to finding solutions for our players when these conflicts arise. This is an exciting step forward for both clubs and we plan to build on this moving forward. Watch out for more joint programming and benefits for our members who enjoy both sports!
