Boys Grades 9 to 10

U16 Program - Boys Grade 9-10 (born 2002-2003)

U16 play full field, full rules field hockey. This means teams play 11-a-side, and penalty corners and other game rules are applied.  The teams at this level play in the Greater Vancouver Junior Field Hockey League (GVJFHL),  with teams from other areas. U16 teams include players from Grades 9 and 10.

Teams: Approximately 16-18 players with a goalie. 

Uniform: We provide a jersey & shorts which you return at the end of the season and socks which you keep. 

Location: North Vancouver or West Vancouver Turf field and other GVJFHL home fields. 

Dates: April 7th - June 17th 2018. No sessions May 19th weekends.

Practice: One practice per week on Thursdays 8:00-9:30pm. Practices begin week of April 2nd. 
Players in Grade 4-9 are also able to attend an additional weekly development session led by paid coaches.
There will also be a free weekly goalie clinic for players in Grade 5+ interested in trying and perfecting their goalie skills

Games: GVJFHL games are on Saturday for U16 boys.   

U16 games are 11 v 11 on a full field. 

The Umpire Assignor will assign 2 umpires for each home game.

  • Guest appearances and coaching from Men's National Team and Women's National Team players
  • Free weekly goalie clinic for players in Grade 5+ interested in trying and perfecting their goalie skills.  Days and times tbc.

  • Free weekly coaching sessions for learning players in Grade 4-9 throughout Spring League.  Days and times tbc.
  • Free pre-season “New to Field Hockey” sessions that will allow you to prepare for the upcoming season with confidence. Details and dates to be confirmed.

What Do I Need?

All players are responsible for providing the following equipment:

  1. Running shoes or turf boots for artificial turf. Soccer cleats are not permitted on Rutledge Field but are allowed on other artificial turf fields.
  2. Shinpads - soccer shinpads.
  3. Mouthguard - standard plastic sports mouthguards can be purchased at many sports stores. To mold the mouthguard to the shape of your mouth so it is more comfortable, place it in boiling water for about a minute. Then take it out and hold it in your mouth for a minute.
  4. Field Hockey stick
